ALL ABOUT ENGINEERING 7

Now that i have let you know about many of the knwon and so called old branches, it is now my responsibility to make you know about my branch, because there is an invisible relationship amongst is.. each and every engineer..  irrespective of the so called bitching they do about other branches(especially CS-IT) but when it comes to there branch they turn protective, and things certainly starts to change so here I'm..into my original protective mode.. protecting it from others who'll judge it.. and now that I have taken so much footage, and create a sort of suspense in your mind let me take its name "I am a petrochemical engineer" isn't it a little bit uncommon..yes we exist 🥰(although not placed)..!!
Well so what you're getting from this uncommon term is something like petroleum and chemical and you're right.. it's something like that only..
Chemical's one of the oldest branch.. and the most admired one too...!!
We are the derivative of that branch, and what is this added word petroleum..this is the word which has its own share of weight..in terms of appreciation, in terms of job's, in terms of zeros in the placement package..!! Then one who's nascent to engineering will love to listen petroleum because that creates an imaginative world in his mind.. somewhere in Saudi Arabia..in the middle to two shiek's.. red wine on the table and suitcase full of money🥰 but it's not at all true😅 yes we get placed outside India and mostly in gulf countries, we get a placement package with zeros and zeros in end.. but it's more of a story which people like me use to justify our decision of opting this branch..!!
Well let keep aside the fun and move towards the technicalities.

The chemical engineering (CE)

In chemical engineering you will learn about polymers, chemicals, petroleum, pharmaceuticals along with computer and information technology for the development of chemical engineering processes. Chemical engineer’s job includes designing, construction and operation of process plants. If you have a passion towards organic & inorganic chemistry, then this is the right branch for you. For a chemical engineer, the number of opportunities is tremendous and growing. There are several opportunities in petrochemical refineries and manufacturing units, pharmaceuticals, FMCG companies, chemical design companies and even in NGOs dealing with environment and climate change.

Some of the top companies where there is a huge scope for chemical engineers include Engineers India Limited (EIL), Flour, KBR, Shell , production companies such as ONGC, IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL, HUL, Proctor andGamble, Reliance, Cairn, Tata Chemicals, RCF, Asian Paints etc. If you plan to go to abroad you will even get higher pays and there opportunities in companies such as Schlumberger, BP, Chevron, Exxon Mobil etc. Bangalore is home to many leading engineering colleges offering courses in chemical engineering.

Now that you know about chemical engineering let me tell you about petroleum engineering now

Petroleum engineers specialise in the study and discovery of natural reservoirs and petroleum deposits located deep inside the earth. For better understanding of their job, we have divided it into four parts:

  1. Discovering and locating these reservoirs and deposits
  2. Once these reservoirs are found, studying and examining the geological formation, nature of rock containing the reservoir with the help of other geologists to determine the drilling method required for extraction.
  3. Designing and developing effective and cost efficient technology to extract these petroleum resources. Also, monitor during the drilling process.
  4. Making sure that the resources are extracted safely and stored properly.
I know you are feeling bored now.. but it's in my DNA right.. finally i have found a stage to say it all.. that's the reason my pet is continued to write and write..!!
Let's solve the mystery then..what a petrochemical engineering do..?
Let's begin with the myth which is spread all around.. it's a good field, people easily get job here, packages are high.. but what's the ground reality..?
People say clear GATE and then you'll have a good placement either in PSU's ( public sector units) or research sectors, but in actual these PSU's either hire a chemical engineer or a petroleum engineer they just don't want a petrochemical engineer..
If you want to have a career here then make up your mind to work only and only in private sector, no research organisation is gonna hire them.
Don't loose hope.. you can work in a refinery, a pharmaceutical company, paint industry, textile industry..
Fun fact: if you are a girl and Willing to be a petrochemical engineer then think twice, you can be a chemical engineer instead to have a good job in organizations like ONGC, or a petroleum engineer to work in organizations like Reliance ltd. But care not opt petrochemical, or else you would be stuck into a four walled chamber of your college basement.. having a dream of becoming HOD someday..!!
This might be hurtful, or disappointing for many but this disappointment is better then having a big big dent onto your life..like the people like us have😊

Morale of the story should be motivating so, the only motivation one can draw from here is choose wisely, don't judge something just by the zeros, or any uncles appreciation, read thoroughly..do research and then opt it because this is gonna build your career one day, nothing else..
Keep reading much more is on the way..
